CYC will host a special presentation, “What’s in Blackwater’s Sky? – or – Bringing the Natural and Physical World to the Public with Electronic Cameras,” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, at the Club. Dr. Harry Heckathorn, astrophysicist and Vice President of the Friends of Blackwater, will discuss the new telescopic camera that the Friends have installed at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for conducting tours of the night sky. He will describe how the computer-controlled telescope was developed, show recent observations of various types of astronomical objects, and describe how the Friends will use the telescope for public enjoyment and education.
The lecture is free and open to Club members and their guests. View the flyer here for more information.
